Batteries

What batteries does the Zen Lock use?

The Yedi Zen Lock (YZL 001) uses 3 × Protected 18650 Lithium-Ion Button-Top batteries. Not included in the box — they must be purchased separately. Only use batteries with a built-in protection circuit (PCB); unprotected 18650 cells are not safe for this device.

Included in boxNo — purchased separately
In-lock chargingNo — external charger required

How do I replace the batteries?

Replacement is done from the interior face of the lock. You'll need the Hex 2.0 screwdriver from your Yedi Platform Kit.

  1. 01Get the Hex 2.0 (2mm Allen) screwdriver from your Yedi Platform Kit.
  2. 02Unscrew the single top screw on the battery chamber cover. Lift the cover upward to remove.
  3. 03Remove the old batteries.
  4. 04Insert 3 charged 18650 batteries — flat side down, button (positive) terminal facing up.
  5. 05Press the small black reset button inside the compartment. Wait up to 8 seconds for the LED to flash green.
  6. 06Reattach the cover from the bottom up, press down until seated, and screw it back in.

Important: Wrong battery orientation may damage the device. Always confirm the button-top (positive terminal) is facing up before closing the cover.

How often should batteries be replaced?

Battery life varies by usage volume and environment. The Yedi dashboard shows live battery level per device and will alert you before power is lost. Keep a spare set of charged batteries at each facility. Store them cool and dry — never short, crush, or expose to water or extreme heat.

02

Charging the batteries

The 18650 cells charge outside the lock using a dedicated charger — there is no built-in charging port. Two compatible 4-bay chargers below, one premium and one budget. For multi-lock facilities, keep a rotating spare set of charged batteries so lock downtime is always zero.

What tools does the lock use?

Two hex/Allen sizes, both included in your Yedi Platform Kit:

Hex 2.0 (2mm)Battery compartment cover screw
Hex 1.5 (1.5mm)Handle screws

Any standard metric hex/Allen bits in these sizes work as replacements — a small set that includes both is the easy call.

What voids the warranty?

Non-original partsAccessories or batteries not specified by Yedi
Keypad / handle modsAny modification to external components
Internal modificationsOpening or altering internals beyond the battery compartment

Troubleshooting

The lock is unresponsive, stuck, or not accepting codes.

Most issues resolve immediately with a hard reset: remove the batteries, wait 5 seconds, reinsert securely.

Codes aren't working — could it be the internet connection?

Yes — the Zen Lock uses 2.4GHz WiFi. A dropped connection can affect code verification. Confirm the facility network is active and in range, then retry. The lock also supports Bluetooth, NFC, keypad PIN, and a mechanical key as alternate access methods while you troubleshoot.

05

Emergency access

The lock has no power or won't respond. How do we get in?

The Zen Lock has a mechanical key override. The keyhole is on the underside of the exterior lock face. Use the physical key provided on installation day.

Lost your key? Contact Yedi Support at support@yedi.app or +1 (201) 279-5151 and we'll help you get back in. Do not force the lock. If there is a person in distress inside, call 911.

The interior handle is always functional regardless of power state — the door can always be opened from inside.

The Yedi app connects to your lock over Bluetooth. Use it to configure WiFi and manage access codes. Your phone must be within a few feet of the lock.

Connecting to WiFi

Step 1 — Open Lock Controls

Once connected via Bluetooth, you'll see battery level and master code. Tap Manage Network to configure WiFi.

Step 2 — Scan for Networks

The WiFi screen opens empty. Tap Scan for Networks — the lock will search for available networks nearby.

Step 3 — Select Your Network

Tap Connect next to your building's network and enter the WiFi password.

⚠ 2.4GHz networks only — 5GHz is not supported.

Managing access codes

Step 1 — Open Lock Controls

Your current master code is shown at the top. Tap Master Code to set or update it.

Step 2 — Set a Master Code

Enter a 4-digit code (no consecutive repeating digits), or tap Generate Random Code. Then tap Set as Master Code to push it to the lock.
